Energy Benchmarking:

A part of the Low Carbon SMEs programme is a process that allows a business to evaluate their energy and carbon management performance against, the best possible practices, other businesses and their own organisation over time. This will provide the business with an understanding of how to best improve and where to improve. This will be completed using the benchmark matrix. This matrix is based the ISO 50001 and ISO 140001.

Using a score of 1 (lowest) to 5 (Highest), on the benchmark matrix, the responding business will give themselves a score on their current performance as well as their targets for future performances. This allows the business to identify and implement simple no cost measures that can have a big long-term impact on reducing carbon footprint and energy costs.

You can access the Low Carbon SMEs Energy Management Benchmark here. For a step by step guide to complete the matrix, please email smelowcarbon@aston.ac.uk
